I've set up the extra webcam downstairs and will attempt to catch Trick-or-Treaters on the Random MooCam tonight.

EDIT: The Trick-or-Treat cam is off now.

One thing I do like about stores putting out all of their Christmas items months in advanced is that I can buy my favorite Christmastime-only candle refill "flavors" again. I found apple cinnamon refills for my Glade scented oil candle at Walgreens yesterday, which made me very happy. I don't know why they only sell these at this time of the year. It's not nearly as season specific as the "glistening snow" (since when does snow have an odor?) scent. I guess the powers that be at Glade decided apples only smell good in winter or something.

3:40 pm

Today has been busy, but boring. I worked on a client's website all morning and into the afternoon. I had a whole bunch of small changes to make. It was nothing challenging, but at least it made the time go by fast. Currently, I'm on the exercise bike making like Lance Armstrong in the Pyrenees - well, if Lance Armstrong had asthma and two broken legs maybe. Once I finish working out and grab a quick shower, I need to head out to run a few errands, the most important of which is going to the dry cleaner to drop off a dress to be pressed. I'm going to be in my friend J's wedding this weekend in New York. Since Mr Moo and I won't be getting there until late Thursday night and I'm not sure how busy we'll be on Friday, I want to get my bridesmaid dress pressed before we leave just in case. Hopefully, it won't get too munched in the suitcase. After that, it'll be a little bit of this and a little bit of that followed by more work. Try not to be too envious of my glamorous life. :-)

My in-laws took Mr Moo and I out for dinner tonight. We went to Dead Lobster. I had crabby legs. It was very yummay.

Now, I bloat.

12:21 pm

I bought a new CD from iTunes yesterday.

It's The Cello Suites Inspired By Bach by Yo-Yo Ma. If you like the cello, I strongly recommend you get this, if you don't have it already. I absolutely love it. Heck, even Mr Moo made mention that he thought it was good, which is a high compliment coming from him. Amazon.com sells it for almost $30. However, if you're willing to live without the liner notes and burn your own CD, you can get it from iTunes for under $20. Gotta love a bargain.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (12.0 miles)

I rode and surfed again today. It certainly makes the time go by quickly. And I'm all for anything that does that while I'm working out.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (11.8 miles)

I didn't watch a movie today. I surfed the internet instead with my laptop and the new stand I made. Woot! Mr Moo was very impressed with my (pathetic) carpentry skills. I think he was most pleased that I didn't hurt myself with the jigsaw and/or make any cuts or holes in his workbench. It's the little things, I guess.

4:30 pm

I spent a good portion of my afternoon today building a stand to attach my laptop to the book/magazine holder of our exercise bike. I made it from some scrap wood I found out in the garage and the strap of a tool belt apron-like thing that Mr Moo has never used. It's not pretty, but it seems to be working. Yup, I'm posting this from the exercise bike. Needless to say, it's not exactly easy to type while pedaling like a madwoman to keep my heart rate up. I better focus on my riding.

2:51 pm

My PC go "Boom!" with a bigness last night. I woke up this morning to countless error messages and crashed programs. I'm still trying to sort exactly what went wrong in an attempt to prevent it from happening again. Oh, the fun never ceases here.

4:10 pm

I printed out credit reports for both Mr Moo and myself today since it's been a while since we've reviewed them. Good grief! The Equifax report is enormous. My apologies to the small forest of trees which died for this.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (11.8 miles)

I haven't worked out in nearly a week because I tweaked a muscle in my back once again. Today is the first day I felt I could sit on the bike for a whole hour without being in agony. It's still a little bit sore, but bearable. I finished watching A Walk on the Moon. The ending was kind of predictable, but I thought it was a sweet movie overall. And you certainly can't go wrong with Liev Schreiber and Viggo Mortensen in the same flick either. :-)

11:03 am

If you're anything like me, over the years, you've accumulated many pairs of shoes that are now living (often times worn only once) in boxes on the top shelf of your closet.

Frequently, they're in boxes from another pair of shoes, so, when you're looking for a particular pair, style or color, you have to take them all down and go through each box to find what you're looking for. Annoying, isn't it? I came across this amazingly clever idea for organizing your shoes on the website of a woman who is way more creative than I am. First, take and print out a photo of each pair of said shoes.

You want them all to be generally the same in size and background. I set up the camera on the tripod to make everything consistent. It also made the task a breeze since all I had to do was swap out each pair of shoes and press a button. It might take a little bit of time and effort to get the print size worked out, but once you determine what works best for you, the rest of them are easy. I reduced my photos in size a bit and printed two images on each sheet of 5 x 7" paper. I found the finished 3 1/2 x 5" size was just right for almost all of my shoeboxes. After printing, cut up your photographs appropriately.

If you can, I recommend printing without the white borders because they're annoying as frell to cut off. Finally, once you have all of your lovely shoe pictures ready to go, tape them to the outside of the appropriate shoebox and voila!

You can now see exactly which shoes are in which box with ease, even if they're on the topmost shelf of your closet.

Mr Moo and I got the rest of our decorations hung up outside last night. Here is the front door now complete with hanging bats and Dracula, among other things.

I still can't believe Halloween is only 10 days away.

11:12 am

This, my friends, is a little kitty getting into big trouble.

The picture is small and blurry, but that is most definitely Josie on the stove eating leftover spaghetti sauce out of the pan. Bad, kitty! Bad!

2:22 am

My insomnia is biting me on the butt big time tonight. I haven't had any trouble sleeping since we got back from our trip to the east coast over a month ago. I've been keeping a regular schedule and getting to bed without issue at a normal hour every night. Not sure what's going on tonight. I haven't had any caffeine since yesterday afternoon and didn't eat anything late. I feel really tired, but I just can't get to sleep. After almost two hours of staring at the dark, I figured enough was enough and got up again. I'll work on cleaning up my office for a little while longer, then try this elusive sleep thing once again.

EDIT: I believe I finally fell asleep sometime just before 0500 and I was still up before 1000. ((yawns)) It's going to be a long day of trying not to nap.

6:06 pm

While I was outside fussing with my pumpkins last night, I kept getting that creepy feeling like I was being watched. I looked around a bit, but didn't see anyone else outside. The feeling wouldn't go away, however, and I was starting to get nervous. Just when I was about to go inside, I spotted the peeping Tom.

"Whatcha doin', Momma?"

2:23 pm

The Roman shades are gone! The Roman shades are gone! ((does happy dance)) Between my going away for my sister's wedding and my client disappearing on vacation, I feel like I've had this project since Abraham Lincoln was president. My client picked up this afternoon and she was very happy with her new shades. I don't think she realizes how much work she still has to do to get them hung up and balanced properly, but I wasn't going to ruin her good mood. She'll figure it out soon enough.

11:01 am

Even though it rained quite heavily on Sunday morning, Mr Moo and I ended up going to the pumpkin farm after all that day. The heaviest rain stopped a little after noon, so we decided to chance it later in the afternoon. We got sprinkled on a bit when we got there, but, otherwise, it was fine. It worked out perfectly, in my opinion, because the earlier rain kept the crowds away and we practically had the entire place to ourselves. I could search for my pumpkins in peace without 4 million screaming kids running and jumping all around me. Anyhoo, I finally got started setting up my outdoor Halloween/autumn decorations last night.

I still have a lot to do, including hanging up my paper bats, getting out Dracula for the front door, and sorting the four boxes of stuff for indoors. Mr Moo said he'd help me finish up tonight, so I'll take another photo if we manage to get it done.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (11.5 miles)

I started watching A Walk on the Moon while working out today. Diane Lane plays a woman married to Liev Schreiber and having an affair with Viggo Mortensen. Can we say "LUCKIEST. WOMAN. EVER."?! Good gravy, sistah has it goin' on! I turned the movie off just as she was about to admit to her husband that she was having the affair. Bet you a nickel his reaction is not going to be a good one. I'll watch the rest of it the next time I work out.

4:59 pm

The lady I made the Roman shades for finally called me today. I've been trying to reach her for a few weeks now to let her know her shades are finished and ready to be picked up. Her answering machine no longer had an outgoing message (it just rang a couple times then beeped) and her mobile phone was always off. I was getting worried she had died or something. Turns out, she was on a multi-week vacation touring around Europe. Way better than being dead, if you ask me. She's stopping by tomorrow arvo to pay me and pick up her stuff.

10:13 am

I have someone coming over this afternoon to be measured. She's going to be in a wedding taking place in NYC next year. A dress is being ordered for her and she just needs a few basic measurements taken to determine what size to choose. It will probably take her longer to get undressed than it will for me to take the measurements. I can't decide - should I even bother charging her? If so, how much? I don't expect her to be here for more than 10 minutes. What, if anything, would you be willing to pay to have your measurements taken?

EDIT: I sent her home with six business cards, three brochures and a smile. She has several friends who are imminently about to get engaged and she is more than happy to tell them about me. She also stated that she has lots of clothes in need of repair that she might bring by. So, we'll see what comes of this.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (11.5 miles)

Looks like this is turning into an every other day thing. That's better than never, but I really need to step it up a bit. I watched the rest of Mr & Mrs Smith while riding today. I thought it was alright. There was plenty of action (lots of things going BOOM!) and lots of cute/funny scenes. Who knew Brad Pitt was such a comedian?

11:52 am
Mr Moo and I have been meeting with an investment person, K, from our bank over the past couple weeks. We've been sitting on our hands when it comes to investing and, even though we've talked a lot about it over the past few years, we still needed to do something about it. We met with a representative from Edward Jones a couple years ago, but Mr Moo never warmed up to the guy and nothing came of it. He seems to be much happier with K and dealing with the bank instead of an investment company. I think he likes the fact that the bank can set us up with pretty much any investment plan we want, whereas an investment company will deal only with their own and the limited other funds they've partnered with.

Our most recent meeting was on Friday. K had reviewed our situation and what we already have (primarily, a whole lot of Intel stocks that aren't doing much), and put together a new and more diversified plan for us. We haven't had a chance to go over it with a fine-toothed comb just yet, but it looked like a good plan when we quickly went over it at the meeting. Whether we go with it as is or make mdoifications to it, it looks like we will be setting up our new investment plan with the bank when we meet with K again on Saturday since Mr Moo sold a whole bunch of stocks today and he's instructed me to start transferring some of our money around in our bank account. I'm still a little bit in shock that Mr Moo actually sold stocks today, but it's all good in the long run.

I'm quite excited about the whole thing. I knew we could do better with the money we have and was getting quite frustrated with our inability to actually do something about it. I didn't want Mr Moo to have to work until he's 80 because we were too lazy/stupid/ignorant to invest our money more wisely. With this new plan, there's a good chance Mr Moo could retire at or before age 60, which is several years ealier than average. Granted, I will probably go mad having him about the house all the time, but I've still got over 20 years to put together a honey-do list.

It's raining! It's pouring! The old man... yeah, yeah, yeah.

Mr Moo and I were supposed to be going to the pumpkin farm today. However, considering that it's monsooning outside right now, I get the distinct feeling that we won't be going today. Bummer.

TODAY'S WORKOUT: 60 minutes on the bike (11.4 miles)

Back on the bike again. I haven't been on it in a long while and it showed. I didn't push myself too hard, but I can already tell I'm going to be sore on the morrow.

5:03 pm

My mobile phone is dead.   :-(

Guess I'll have to buy a new one.   :-D

12:06 pm

I received some great cards for my birthday last week, like this tuna-modified one from Mr Moo and the kitties:

Inside reads: May you be as happy as the first cat who figures out how to work a can opener.

Mr Moo bought me a computer game for my birthday last week.

Some of you, who have been around computers for a few hundred years like I have, might remember the original version of this game. It was a quite popular 2D game that was released back in 1991. This version is displayed in 3D, but still plays a lot like the old 2D version. The biggest difference is each level now has a cylindrical column that the lemmings walk around. Instead of panning left to right, you rotate around the column to see everything. For someone like me, who has very poor spatial awareness, this game is madness! I've (somehow) managed to complete three levels. I figure I'll be about 97 years old by the time I manage to figure out the rest of them.

I don't think there is anything better than a long hot shower when your tummy is upset and you're cold. I would have stayed in longer, but I remembered I have a dentist appointment at 1400. Better get the lead out.

Mr Moo bought me some DVDs for my birthday.

I've already seen all of them, so I think it's safe to say I don't have to worry about not liking them.

5:25 pm

There's nothing quite like falling asleep at your desk and waking up to a cold wet cat nose in your ear. Thanks, Zoe.

1:19 pm

I just had a consultation appointment with a new client. She purchased her wedding dress a while back and took it to a place near her home to be altered. To say she was unhappy with the results is an understatement. She had asked for just the waist to be taken in. When she went to pick it up, they had taken in the bust, too, and they had taken it in so much, the gown didn't fit anymore. They did a second round of alterations on the dress to make it fit her again. When she went to pick it up for the second time, she discovered it still wasn't fitting quite right, there were lots of crystals sewn on wrong, falling off or just completely missing, and, even though they claimed to have dry cleaned it, the dress was dirty. It looks like it was dragged across a filthy floor and someone spilled something on it. What a mess. Needless to say, she didn't want them touching it anymore. She's brought it to me to fix it. She's asked me to completely remove the spaghetti straps since they're much too tight now and she never liked them to begin with. I'm also going to remove all of the crystals and sew them back on again - properly. I can't do anything about the dirt, but I've given her the business card of a reputable dry cleaner, who should be able to help her out.

9:46 am
In case anyone has been following my seemingly neverending saga of sleeplessness... Upon our return from the east coast last month, I took advantage of the jet lag and started going to bed "early" (at or before midnight). Well, I'm pleased to announce that, four weeks later, I'm still sleeping "normal" hours. I'm still managing to get to bed by midnight every night, falling asleep relatively right away, and getting up around 0900 every morning. As Mr Moo was kind enough to point out, it's only going to take one or two bad nights before I'm right back into my old bad habits (of staying up until dawn and sleeping all day), but, for now, I'm doing well and feeling better for it.
12:07 am

Next time I get asked to make Roman shades, will someone, please, come over and punch me in the neck before I agree to it?

4:32 pm

The Spankees have officially been eliminated from this year's post-season play. Yay! I don't even care who wins the World Series now. I'm just happy it won't be the Yankees. Time to focus on football and my Patriots.

10:10 am

Mr Moo bought me a couple new sweaters for my birthday. This is one of them:

Well, technically, he didn't actually go out and buy them for me. We went shopping after he took me out to dinner on Wednesday and I said, "Oooo! Look! Sweaters!" That's almost the same thing, isn't it? :-) The important thing is he didn't give me a hard time about it and just let me buy them.

Mr Moo bought me flowers for my birthday on Wednesday.

For some reason, he neglected to tell the florist what to write on the card, so it showed up blank. He went through all the trouble to have flowers delivered to me and almost didn't get credit for them!

9:48 am

I recently ordered one of these for Mr Moo:

It's a USB Missile Launcher for his computer at work. It's become such a novelty item, I couldn't find a US company online who had a single one in stock, and ended up having to order it from an Australian company. It arrived on Tuesday. Mr Moo came as close to making noises like an over-excited fangirl as I've ever seen. He hooked it up to his laptop to test it out. I don't think he had it working for more than three minutes before he was talking about modifying it to shoot other and/or flaming projectiles and to up its range. Ah, the endless wonder of being married to an enginerd. He hasn't taken it to work yet, but he is giddy with anticipation to do so. His words: "I am going to be the coolest geek at work!"

9:19 am

Based on the stank in the hall bathroom this morning, it would appear that someone is, once again, hiding Jimmy Hoffa's body in my cats' litterbox.

Mr Moo and I visited the Statue of Liberty while we were in NYC last month. Yes, I know I still need to post the photos from our trip, but, unfortunately, that's really low on the priority list right now. Anyhoo, while we were there, we purchased one of the souvenir coins from the gift shop. The machine, which made the coins, had glass sides so you could see the mechanism inside. The coin started as a blank slug and, for something like $3.50 (ouch), you get to watch the machine press the coin and emboss the design on the sides. I like to see how things are made, so I was enthralled. Interesting fact about this coin - it's the same thickness as the copper skin on the Statue of Liberty, roughly 3/32" or 2.37mm. I collect souvenir pressed pennies, which you can get at a lot of tourist attractions, but I had never seen anything like this before. It's one of few souvenirs we brought home with us.

Hooray for cereal!

10:28 am
I've only been awake for an hour and my allergies are already kicking my a** today. They actually started bothering me yesterday, but I chalked it up to playing with the cats too much (I'm allergic to dander, for anyone out of the loop). Normally, when I'm reacting to the cats, a night's sleep is enough for my body to flush it out of my system. Considering I woke up feeling worse than when I went to bed, I'm going to assume that it's seasonal allergies and not caused by those of feline persuasion. This, of course, now means potentially weeks of sniffling, sneezing and a runny nose. Oh, joy.

The bumblebee who was keeping me company while I did yardwork a couple weekends ago:

The temperature has dropped considerably this weekend. Our unseasonably warm weather is officially over and autumn is here. I don't think I'll be seeing anymore bumblebees until the spring.

10:20 am

Look! This one is actually on time, baby! WOOT! This month's Cows in Shining Armor calendar image (click to see full size):

Beif Eriksson
Most famous of the Bovikings, Beif and his warriors did prowl the seas in sleek longbarns, moorauding through unsuspecting village barbecues. Their horned helmets (in truth just regular helmets with holes for their real horns to poke through) filled Burger Eaters with fear, as they were quite pointy. Beif spent his later years grazing new lands, founding a colony at Moofoundland. In traditional Boviking fashion, he was finally "put out to pasture" by being set adrift in a burning food trough.
