Does anyone know if it's safe to feed cats boiled egg yolks? Since I'm dieting, I only eat the whites and end up throwing the yolks away. I know there's a lot of calories and fat in yolks, which would be beneficial for our shrinking Zoe. I'm concerned about the cholesterol in them though. She barely weighs 8 pounds now. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to give her a heart attack at this point. I've got a call in to the vet, so I'll have a definite answer, hopefully, by the end of today, but I'm also curious if anyone else has fed yolks to their cat and if there were any, ummm, let's say "digestive side effects". I fed her a little bit of one mixed in with some canned cat food today and she gobbled it right down. I guess I'll find out if it comes shooting out the other end within the next 24 hours or so. I'll be pleased if the vet says it's a good thing to give her for weight gain because she seems to really like them.

EDIT: The vet called. He said cholesterol is not an issue for cats and eggs should not cause any digestive issues. In fact, they are quite easy for cats to process and put very little stress on the kidneys, which is an added bonus in Zoe's case since something is going on with hers. He's growing increasingly concerned about her weight loss and was happy to learn that she actually likes the yolks. I've been given the okay to feed her one whole boiled yolk per day, for as long as she'll eat them, which knowing how fickle my cats can be, will probably be about two days. We'll weigh her again in a month and see if it helps at all.

Yes, you can feed eggs to cats. I had one that loved scrambled eggs(plain of course). Unless Zoe has a digestive issue the cooked yolks shouldn't be a problem. Some canned cat food has eggs. Bon Appetit:-)

KELLY:
I wasn't worried so much about whether or not eggs as food are safe. I know eating eggs once in a while won't kill her. I was more wondering if giving them too her on a regular basis would cause problems either with her heart or, worse, her poop chute. Turns out, neither should be an issue so Miss Zoe will now be getting an egg yolk a day for a while!
