This morning's breakfast was a blueberry/banana protein shake.

Now that fresh blueberries have gone off season and are ridiculously expensive again, I was looking for a way to use frozen berries that didn't involve just defrosting and eating them since they're always disgusting that way. I found this recipe from Oprah's website. The original recipe makes two servings. I always ended up throwing away the second serving because, since it has banana in it, it turned a really funky brown color after just a couple hours in the fridge and I couldn't bring myself to drink it. So, I cut the recipe in half.

The Quick Magical Breakfast Blaster
makes 1 serving, roughly 196 calories

1/2 scoop soy protein
     (like Nature's Plus SPIRU-TEIN powder)
1/2 teaspoon psyllium seed husks
(I use a small packet of any of the Metamucil products)
3/4 teaspoon flaxseed oil
3/4 teaspoon honey or apple juice concentrate
     (I use agave nectar)
1/4 cup (37g) frozen blueberries
1/2 cup (75g) ripe banana or any other fruit of your choice

Break the banana into chunks. Put all of the ingredients into a blender. Add 6 ounces of water and ice. You can also add powdered vitamins, if you'd like. Cover and blend until fairly smooth.
