You know what should be a crime? The amount car rental companies tack onto your base rate in fees and surcharges. Our two week compact car rental in September has a base rate of of $224.20 ($112.10 per week), which is a very reasonable rate, in my opinion. What sends me over the edge is that they are tacking on an additional $140.43 in fees. That's more than the weekly rental rate! I realize that there's no escaping the taxes, but a $51.00 "facility usage fee"? And what the heck is "apt conc recov fee"? I won't even bore you with the rest. It's a crime, I tell you. A crime!

Ms Moo, check out a dealership rental in that area. We rented the prius from a dealer and it was a lot less then the rental at the airport. But of course we still had our car to go pick it up where you will be at the airport. Just and Idea if you rent before you buy that is way we rented the car.

Off site rental ageencies will often pick you up at the airport and return you to the airport. Many of the "fees" have to do with being located at sn airport. Good Luck :-)

However, off site rental agencies do not have to stay open until the last flight comes in, so if you're delayed or get bumped to a later flight and the workers want to go home, then you could be stuck with no car.

JEANETTE:
Yeah, unfortunately, we'll be a little too isolated at the airport for that to be a viable option on this trip. If we ever fly into a larger city, we'll definitely keep that in mind though.

KELLY:
Unfortunately, in Providence, there are no other rental agencies except the ones at the airport. They have us between a rock and a hard place on this one.

That definitely is a good point!
