Wyoming - September 2007 - Devils Tower National Monument
While hiking the Tower Trail, we had some incredible views of the tower.
That particular trail cut fairly close to the tower at several points. Upon closer inspection, we discovered the color specks we kept seeing on the face were actually people climbing it.
Nahhh... better admired from a distance... no need for a 'face-to-face' with the actual rock...

We climbed up on the rock fall a ways, but even that was so difficult we couldn't reach the vertical columns. I can't even imagine climbing all the way to the top.
