How many times have you had stitches, and what were the circumstances? Explain.

category: Blast from the Past

The only times I've ever had stitches were the results of surgery. I had a couple in my neck and close to 100 in my mouth after my jaw surgery, a few on my belly after my laparoscopic gall bladder surgery and 40-50 in my mouth after my gum surgery.

Numerous surgeries.... my abdominal region looks like a road map. First big one was the appendectomy - due to the fact that I was gangrenous (yechh) I ended up being sliced and diced in a rather long operation and had a lot of stitching for that - this eventually went keloid so it looks most attractive - not. Then there was the cyst removal on the back of my hand - but I was only awarded a paltry half a dozen stitches for that.
A laporoscopy saw me with three cuts from navel to groin. This was followed 12 months later by a hysterectomy and ovary removal which left me with a row of what looked like metal teeth across my abdomen - they were in fact staples which were holding together the many layers of stitching under the surface, neatly entwined with a drainage tube. The staples kept falling out and I ended up with a wound like a lopsided smile. And when they took the drainage tube out it got stuck and I squawked like a toddler as it was pulled inch by skin crawling inch from in between the rows of stitching. The length of the tube was unbelievable - it was like a scene from 'Alien' emerging in a trail of gore.

My latest surgery was a cartilege op on my knee which left me with three lots of stitching, one of which burst when I got home. Fortunately the bedroom carpet is dark brown. I would like to say that's all the surgery, but knowing my luck, there is bound to be more.... Pass me the scalpel please, nurse...

ANNA-MARIA:
Really? Was there a medical issue or did you do it for cosmetic reasons?
