I never met my maternal grandparents and my paternal grandmother died when I was very young so I only ever really knew my grandfather. He was, shall we say, a bit grumpy, but he had his moments. I have vague memories of hiding behind the sofa waiting for him to get home when we visited. He would pretend he had no idea where I was and would look all around for me, which I totally believed. It gave me serious giggle fits. I thought I was so clever.
